The County of Stettler No. 6 is currently seeking a motivated candidate to join our Environmental Services team as a Utilities Operator.
The County of Stettler Environmental Services team oversees County-owned water lines in addition to the water systems for Shirley McClellan Regional Water Services Commission (SMRWSC), SMRWSC Big Valley waterline and SMRWSC Donalda waterline.

About the Opportunity

The suitable candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a strong sense of responsibility, have a practical aptitude to carry out work assignments and have a friendly, helpful and cooperative personality. We are looking for a motivated individual who is well presented and can communicate well in both written and verbal situations. Requirements

To be considered for the position, the suitable candidate must possess the following skills & criteria:

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • EOCP Operator Certification in Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection (Level I or higher preferred), or demonstrated ability and commitment to complete required certification training
  • The ability to perform manual labour, including lifting up to 50 lbs
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to drive extensively throughout our region to our many sites

About the Duties (to include, but not limited to)

  • Operate and maintain equipment in a Level 2 Distribution, Level 1 Wastewater Treatment system and Level 1 Wastewater Collection system
  • Collect and analyze water samples
  • Record in the necessary reports and daily logs
  • Water meter reading, replacement and repair
  • Assist with the flushing of water and sewer lines, repair of fire hydrants and water mains
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and SCADA systems would be an asset
  • Experience in construction, municipal operations or other manual labour industries and familiarity with equipment such as rubber tired backhoes.

Experience in a related discipline would be ideal; however, if you are a conscientious, driven individual, we are willing to provide training.

Hours of Work

7:00am – 4:00pm Monday to Friday, with requirement to be ‘on-call’ on a rotational basis (normally one in four weekends).
