The Summer Program Leader assists with implementation, supervision and evaluation of RAD Summer Day Camps during the summer months at BGC Stettler - Heartland Youth Center. They will assist with program planning which meet the core values of the BGC Canada (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada). They will be a positive role model for all youth and will promote the awareness of agency programs in the community.

The Summer Program Leader will be 16 years or older; have had previous employment or volunteer experience working with youth and excellent leadership and communication skills. This position is dependent on successful receipt of Canada Summer Jobs grants and/or Alberta Youth Employment Incentive grants.

The Summer Program Leader will report directly to the RAD Summer Coordinator. This seasonal position is based on a 35-40 hour (full time) work week for July and August. Some additional hours are required for staff training. If we do not received our CSJ or AYEI grants or full hours, this position may be offered as a part time position instead.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Program Planning, Implementation, Supervision and Evaluation
  • Will assist in planning, implementation and evaluation of RAD Summer Day Camps in July and August
  • Will plan non-competitive activities which enhance members self-esteem and meet the needs of the individual members in the program
  • Will seek input from members as to program content
  • Will complete daily and year end evaluations of programs
  • Supervision of Staff and/or Volunteers
  • Will assist with the supervision, skill development and evaluation of junior leaders as they volunteer within the Summer Day Camps.
  • Volunteer Recruitment
  • Will actively recruit volunteers for all areas of the HYC and work cooperatively with the Volunteer Coordinator in forwarding information regarding volunteer opportunities at the HYC.
  • Will use junior leaders whenever possible to enhance their leadership skills
  • Administration / Funding
  • Maintain accurate daily statistics of youth involved in the programs
  • Contribute to HYC promotion and programs as required

  • HYC’s success relies in the ability of all staff, volunteers and youth to work together whether it is a fundraiser, a program or a special event. All staff will assist and help other staff or Board members for activities when required.

General Responsibilities

The Summer Program Leader will respect the confidentiality of the HYC members and volunteers at all times. The Summer Program Leader will report any suspected cases of physical, emotional, mental and/or sexual abuse to the Program Director, who will in turn report to the Executive Director, the Chairperson, and to the appropriate authority.
