Volunteer Coordinator/Front of House Guest Services


The Badlands Amphitheatre is a non-profit arts and culture venue located in Drumheller, Alberta, in the heart of the Canadian Badlands. Home to Canada’s largest outdoor stage, our 2,500-seat outdoor amphitheatre and indoor Badlands Arts Centre hosts the renowned Badlands Passion Play; the Canadian IconsConcert Series; Badlands Vanfest; Roots, Blues, & Barbecue; Lightfest: Winter in the Badlands; outdoor opera and much more. With our spectacular natural setting, unique in the world, we create a sustainable community through performance events (with economic, cultural, social, and environmental outcomes), increase awareness and skill in the arts, and encourage tourism by creating significant cultural attractions. The Badlands Amphitheatre has amandate to produce, create, and host events; enable arts education, and promote tourism based on our values of community, creation, and celebration.


The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for recruiting, training, and managing volunteers for nonprofit events at the Badlands Amphitheatre. Working closely with event planning teams, the Volunteer Coordinator ensures that all volunteer needs are met, and that volunteers have a positive and meaningful experience working with the organization while serving the Badlands Amphitheatre guests. The Volunteer Coordinator also manages Front-of-House guest operations on event days working closely with the volunteers, Guest Services Administrator, Box Office, and Production Manager.


  • Experience in volunteer management and/or event planning
  • Experience in the arts, culture, and tourism sector is an advantage
  • University Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as consensus-building and communication skills for working with mixed teams of contractors, employees, sponsors, and volunteers
  • Excellent written communication skills with a keen sense of attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal communication with an emphasis on clear communication
  • Demonstrated time management skills in a deadline-oriented environment
  • Comfortable in online environments and online meetings
  • Experience with Google Suite and project management software (Teamwork) is an asset (training provided)


  • Manage volunteer recruitment, registration and scheduling
  • Provide training to volunteers prior to the event in all areas
  • Manage volunteers during the event, including assigning tasks, answering questions, and providing support as needed
  • Work with contract employees who will be helping with Front-of-House guest services.
  • Collect feedback from volunteers and make recommendations for improvements
  • Maintain volunteer records and ensure that volunteers receive recognition for their contributions
  • Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to ensure that the event runs smoothly and meets its goals
  • Communicates with volunteers in a clear manner
  • Complete event reporting after each event day
  • Work with the Production Manager on event days as the Front-of-House Guest position
  • Ensure service excellence standards for guest experiences


  • A wage of $20-$23 to be paid bi-weekly (15th and last day of each month), less applicable deductions.
  • This amount includes any use of personal technology (i.e. cell phone, computer). A business phone line, with a dedicated phone number and accessible via an app on a cell phone or computer,will be supplied.
  • Salary is based on a 35-hour work week.
  • Work will be done during regular business hours with evenings and weekends as needed for events.
  • Time off may be taken in lieu of extra hours for events. Two weeks of vacation are given within a one-year period.

Note: This is a CSJ (Canada Summer Jobs) funded position and is available only for a youth who is a Canadian Citizens, permanent resident or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; has a valid SIN (Social Insurance Number) at the start of employment; and who is between 15-30 at the start of the program.
