We are looking for Safety minded, hard working, result focused individuals to join our transportation team for the season. These positions will have a variety of tasks, with a strong focus on physical labour, supplemented with occasional operation of limited equipment.
May to September 2026(With an opportunity for an extension into October)
Duties of the successful candidates may include:
- Keeping safety as the top priority for oneself and other team members
- Crack sealing roadways - filling cracks with oil and sand on our chip sealed roads
- Bridge maintenance - cleaning gravel off the bridge decks
- Guard rail maintenance - post replacement, sign replacement/repair
- Yard maintenance - shop clean up, cleaning fleet vehicles, emptying garbage bins
- Brushing right-a-ways - cutting down trees/brush within road allowance with chainsaws
- Weed Whipping bridge areas, guard rails and other areas as needed
- Equipment operation, such as skid steer, packer and a telehandler, as well as others
- Operation of 1-ton trucks and towing a variety of trailers
- General Duties - helping other departments when required, cleaning wash bay, cleaning up road right-a-ways
- Participate in safety meetings and training as part of the County's Health and Safety program
- Other related duties as determined by the Management Team
Qualifications:
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
- Working knowledge in the care and use of all tool and equipment common as noted above
- Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with supervisors and co-workers utilizing tact and diplomacy
- Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment
- Ability to use good judgement to interpret and analyze methods and procedures for best results
- Able to follow instructions as given and prioritize tasks
- Physically demanding at times, includes long periods of working outdoors in various weather conditions, carry and lifting up to 50 lbs
Additional qualifications would be beneficial:
- Class 3 Drivers license with a Q Endorsement
- Can operate a standard transmission safely and effectively
- Chain saw certification desirable
