The Central Alberta FASD Network is a non-profit organization offering community-based, cost-free and fee for service programming individuals impacted by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD),their caregivers and the community. We are part of a system-wide FASD Network model that has made Alberta a leader inservice delivery, both in Canada and internationally. We offer education, prevention, assessment and diagnosis, and outreach and support services. We are seeking to fill a full-time, permanent Community Outreach & Support Worker position for Drumheller and area.
Job Summary:
The Drumheller and area Community Outreach and Support Worker will develop strong collaborative relationships with youth and adult clients, potentially impacted or diagnosed with FASD, and their families and caregivers. The successful candidate will encourage the client’s active participation in developing goals that address their unique concerns and are sensitive to their cultural values and socioeconomic circumstances. In addition, the candidate will provide FASD awareness, education, and advocacy within the community to provide support, guidance, and advocacy for individuals, with a possible diagnosis, or diagnosed with, FASD.
Summary of Duties:
- Provides support services that include ongoing assessment of individual and/or family/caregiver functioning, relational systems and environmental constraints and resources.
- Develops and implements supportive approaches and interventions that recognize clients' unique characteristics and strengths as well as barriers.
- Supports positive, sustainable behavioral change as well as intrapersonal and interpersonal growth and development.
- Assist clients in navigating the FASD assessment and diagnosis process if applicable.
- Provide clients with FASD post-assessment and diagnosis follow-up support.
- Support clients who are connected with the Restorative Justice Program Supervisor, Clinic Coordinator and other applicable positions.
- Identify barriers to service and address any concerns, such as client’s ability to provide a point of contact for themselves, scheduling assessments, transportation issues etc.
- Assist clients and additional supports in identifying and accessing appropriate community and government services.
- Assist clients with completion of necessary applications for services and other paperwork.
- Regularly connect with service providers,create and develop new partnerships, and maintain existing connections in the communities to provide ongoing FASD training, education and prevention programming
- This position reports to the Outreach Support Team Lead.
Educationand Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or diploma insocial work, social science, or related field and/or comparable experience with FASD, disabilities, mental health and addictions.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience with vulnerable, marginalized or at-risk populations.
- Knowledge regarding disabilities, mental health and addictions.
- Commitment to a strength-based, client-centred approach.
- Superior communication ability and interpersonal skill
- High level of personal integrity and ethical practice.
- High degree of cultural awareness.
- Knowledge of community development processes and ability to enhance community capacity.
- Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple priorities, and tight timelines.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
- A vehicle and valid class 5 driver’s license.
The position is 35 hours/week, Monday – Friday; flexibility will be required and the capacity to work occasional evenings and weekends.
