Summer Reading Program Assistant

Job Posting: Summer Reading Program Assistant

Term: June 29th - August 29th, 2026

Hours: 30 hours per week

Compensation: $17.75/hour

The Drumheller Public Library is seeking an energetic and creative student to help plan, promote and deliver our Summer Reading Program (SRP) designed for children aged 4-12 and youth 13-17. The SRP assistant will work with children’s services staff, the SRP coordinator, and volunteers to provide free and inclusive programming to all library visitors. This position provides invaluable experience in children’s programming and community outreach within a supportive work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the SRP coordinator and the Children’s Services staff and volunteers to develop, promote, and deliver fun and educational programming for children aged 4-12 and youth aged 13-17
  • Represent the Library at outreach events
  • Assist other library staff members with essential library tasks and special projects

Requirements:

  • A commitment to building skills and a passion for fostering literacy, creativity, and a love of learning in children
  • Experience working with children is preferred
  • Intermediate computer and social media skills including Microsoft Office and Canva
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • To comply with funding requirements:
  • o Be between 16 and 30 years of age
  • o Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or hold refugee status
  • o Be returning to full-time studies in the fall 2026 semester
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license is strongly preferred
  • A criminal record check, vulnerable sector check, and child welfare intervention record check may be required of the successful candidate prior to commencing work

Working Conditions:

  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling library materials and carrying up to a maximum of 12kg
  • Ability to squat, kneel, bend, and raise arms above shoulders
  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Availability for evening and Saturday shifts
