Position Summary:

The Recycling Attendants report to the Recycling Supervisor. Recycling Attendants may also support the scale attendant on a part-time basis. When supporting the scale attendant position, they will report to the Administrative Assistant. In the absence of the Administrative Assistant, they will report to the Landfill Manager. The following will list the general duties of the Recycling Attendant:

Facility Management:

  • Pick- up of recyclables from various public facilities and seniors’ complexes.
  • Ensures the recycling commodities handled by the Recycling Facility are processed and prepared for shipping in the applicable and appropriate manner.
  • Ensures all applicable OH & S regulations, and DDRL policies and procedures are followed within the Recycling Facility.
  • Sort and prepare household toxic waste materials for appropriate shipping to an accredited toxic waste management facility.
  • General cleaning and light maintenance of Recycling Facilities.
  • Ground keeping and litter collection on and off site.
  • General maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
  • General maintenance and site cleanup at the local community drop offs.
  • In an emergency or in the event of staff shortages the Recycling Attendants may be called on to direct traffic, direct site users to appropriate disposal or storage area; or direct vehicles to safe area for unloading.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the Landfill Manager and/or the Recycling Supervisor

Reporting:

  • Completing Daily Pre-trips, field hazard assessments (FHA)
  • Litter Collection Reports
  • Assist with Facility Inspections when requested

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent education is required.
  • Strong Customer Service skills, able to work with a minimum of supervision and works effectively in a high paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and as a team member.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
