The Town of Drumheller is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and team-orientated leader to fill the NEW position of Assistant Chief Administrative Officer.
As a key member of the Senior Management Team and reporting directly to the CAO, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic goals for the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer portfolio. In this role, the Assistant CAO will oversee a team of four direct reports across Human Resources, Communications, Economic Development and Legislative Services while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the organization as a whole. The Assistant CAO will also attend and actively engage in weekly council meetings and will act in the capacity of CAO during their absence. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strategic and critical thinking skills, a strong commitment to team leadership, continuous operational improvement, innovation, and collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

The successful candidate is expected to assume the role of Chief Administrative Officer for the Town following the retirement of the current CAO in 2025.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Engineering or related field. Master’s degree will be considered an asset.
• 7-10 years progressively responsible experience at a senior level in policy development, planning, municipal administration, finance, and/or human resources in an urban government setting.
• Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience at a senior level.
• Certified and experienced in Project Management.
• Change Management Certification or demonstrated experience with change management principles is desirable.
• Experience with Six Sigma methodology and principles for creating operational efficiencies.
• Strong EQ.
• Proven experience in the management of operations, finance, personnel and strategic planning.
• Strong interpersonal skills, presentation skills and experience in public engagement including with the media.
• Proven excellent time management skills and ability to balance multiple priorities.
• NACLAA level 1 and/or 2 Certification or CLGM designation preferred.
• Strong working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act.
• Working knowledge and proficiency in capital and operational budgeting.
Additional Information
The general hours of work are Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, with additional hours required regularly in the evenings to attend council and board meetings.
