Facility Manager, Wheatland Wind Site

Reporting Relationships

As part of Potentia’s Wind Operations team, this position reports directly to Manager, Wind Operations.


Accountabilities and Key Functions

The Facility Manager is responsible for administering the operation and maintenance activity of the Wheatland Wind Site.


Key Functions include:

  • Administer any long-term O&M/BoP/ISP contracts and verifying that the terms of the contract are met as per the TSA and SMA
  • Audit the O&M contractor's work and safety procedures on a day-to-day basis
  • Plan and schedule equipment maintenance activities to maintain facilities in good working order and to maximize the availability of the equipment. This includes both the utility contracted annual and major outages.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Administer any long-term O&M/BoP/ISP contracts and verifying that the terms of the contract are met as per the TSA and SMA
  • Assist with any long-term issues with the OEM/contractor that may arise
  • Liaise with the landowners of the facility, dealing with the daily issues as they arise
  • Aid in the development of the yearly budget requirements and manage the facility within approved budget control lines
  • Liaise with government Health, Safety, and Environment officials to meet or create standards for safety at the site
  • Audit the O&M contractor's work and safety procedures on a day-to-day basis
  • Administer the analysis and compilation of oil samples as required by the OEM manuals, Operation Manager, or Head Office staff
  • Plan and schedule staff work, vacations, training and implement strategies to maximize revenue of the facility, reporting to the Operation Manager all changes and balances
  • Plan and schedule equipment maintenance activities to maintain facilities in good working order and to maximize the availability of the equipment. This includes both the utility contracted annual and major outages
  • Plan and schedule equipment maintenance activities to minimize downtime impact on revenue
  • Expedite the quick repair of any BOP, Substation, or any other issue that falls within our area of responsibility.

The successful candidate will need to have:

  • High voltage electrical knowledge, including substation and switching
  • Proven knowledge of wind turbine components and operations
  • Strong collaborative skills working with both internal and external stakeholders in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value.

Physical Requirements / Environment

  • Ability to climb the wind turbine tower (110 meters) occasionally for HSE / LOTO inspection and other related WTG audit activities
  • You may be required to work outside during all 12 months of the year in all types of weather and conditions. Duties are performed in well lighted, heated and ventilated buildings, however the temperature in these locations could be high during the summer months and cool during the winter.
  • Considerable physical effort may be required during periods of normal maintenance and overhaul of plant equipment, or when assisting in the facility and modification of plant equipment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Operations and Maintenance of wind energy facilities with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Technical expertise in the day-to-day operations and troubleshooting of wind energy systems
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong team building and development skills
  • Knowledge of SCADA and other monitoring systems
  • Detail oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Have an ability and willingness to travel on occasion
  • A valid driver’s license.
