- Annual Salary when classified as Equipment Operator II at $63,363 - $70,084 and when classified as Equipment Operator III at $68,000 - $75,584 depending upon experience and education. Competitive benefits package.
- 8-hour workday (Monday through Friday) – Overtime will be required when conditions arise
Summary
The Special Areas Board is seeking three (3) skilled and motivated Equipment Operators to join our team. This unique opportunity involves a dual-role position: operating heavy equipment on Construction Crews during the construction season and performing mechanical shop duties, trucking and snow plowing during the late fall, winter and early spring months.
Description: Key Duties will include but not limited to:
Construction Season (Equipment Operator III – May through October) – reporting to the Foremen of the Camp Crew to which assigned: Operate heavy and specialized equipment, including motor graders, scrapers, hydraulic excavators, and loaders, for tasks such as:
- Finishing grading and construction excavation
- High-volume production loading and stockpiling
- Road base preparation and major reconstruction projects
- Transport equipment using tandem trucks and trailers which may require a Class 1 license
- Perform basic maintenance or assisting journeymen technicians
Winter Season (Equipment Operator II – November through April) - reporting to the Shop Supervisor:
Operate medium/heavy construction and maintenance equipment, such as skid steers, tractors with attachments, graders, dozers, and snowplows, to perform tasks including:
- Wash Bay
- Tire Repairs and Servicing
- General Equipment Maintenance (Oil Changes-Minor repairs) and assisting with Equipment Inspections
- Pit stripping, reclamation snowplowing, sanding, and general winter road maintenance.
- Basic ditching, brushing, clearing, hauling and stockpiling gravel as required
- Ensure equipment is operational and safe for use during extreme winter conditions
Requirements:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent (GED); combined with three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in the operation of operating heavy equipment in a variety of construction and maintenance applications. service-related field. A combination of experience/education/training will be considered.
- Minimum Class 3Q Operator's License, issued by the Province of Alberta is required
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform routine maintenance and assist with repairs.; combined with strong attention to detail and ability to work within precise tolerances; flexibility to transition between seasonal roles and tasks.
- Competent working knowledge in the care and use of all tools and equipment common to this position; Knowledge of workplace safety standards, including operating in proximity to personnel, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Physical capability to perform the job duties required. Lifting of over 50 lbs., ability to enter and exit equipment/trucks and commitment to adapting to weather and operational demands year-round is required
Key Details and Considerations for Applicants
- These are designated safety sensitive positions and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted on all newly hired employees.
- Class 1 Operator's License issued by the Province of Alberta, or the ability and interest in obtaining is preferred.
- Equipment Operator II (November – April): Work in the Youngstown Service Centre, supporting equipment maintenance, shop duties, and operational readiness.
- Equipment Operator III (May – October): Operate heavy equipment on field construction projects, performing complex tasks in a camp setting.
